05/05/2003 | TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY: OLIVIER DUPUIS ANNOUNCES HIS RESIGNATION AS SECRETARY
Brussels, 5 May 2003. Yesterday, at the end of a meeting of Radical leaders, the MEP Olivier Dupuis confirmed his irrevocable decision to resign from his office as Secretary of the Transnational Radical Party, a decision announced last Friday to the Radical executive.

The reasons behind his resignation will be illustrated in a letter that members of the Transnational Radical Party will receive in the next few days. Olivier Dupuis held the office of TRP Secretary from May 1995 to April 2002, and then from the Tirana Congress of November 2002 up to last Friday.

Statement by Olivier Dupuis:

"I believe it is now both pointless and damaging for the party that the office of Secretary should be held be a political militant who has been publicly accused by Marco Pannella and other Radical leaders of being totally incapable of fulfilling the duties and the mandate with which he had been entrusted.

I believe that I owe the members of the TRP an explanation for my decision, and I will therefore be sending them a letter in the next few days.

For the moment the only thing I feel I should point out is that my decision was taken for political reasons, and that it will in no way affect my political commitment to a party whose transnational initiatives continue to be of fundamental importance to me."
